Shocking News...

This weekend I have been mainly working on the Mini suspension. I ordered a pack from Mini Sports with a new set of shock absorbers and adjustable ride height cones. I thought that this would be a easy swap, and I am pretty sure it would have been if I wasn't working on a car that hasn't had the rear suspension touched for 25 years. The front came out with no real problems just a little tapping with a hammer whilst the trumpets for the rear would not budge and the rubber springs would not move from the sub-frame. Not wanting to remove the  radius arms left little room to manoeuvre so I got out a hacksaw and cut the trumpets in half. Even with more space and a long bar I could not get the cones or springs out. After some more shouting and swearing and a lot of brute force I finally managed to get both out. However, once out, I still couldn't get the cones and springs apart so out came the hacksaw again and I cut down between the spring and cone leaving a ring of aluminium corroded into the steel inside the rubber springs. Some final hammer and chisel work and it was all ready to go back together with the new shock absorbers. This went well and with some adjusting I think it looks good. It is still in need of the front shocks and once they are on I will finish the set up .
